Here is the next one, right on top of the last post I did. Ingenieure: Firmen haben 70 000 Jobs zu vergeben - Fachkräftemangel - FOCUS Online
It claims that there are more than 95000 open positions with only around 23000 engineers available on the job market. Funny. And well deserved. German schools for decade have churned out misguided social worker wannabees that thought the working for a profit is evil. Or that working for a commercial outfit is plain stupid, since government employees have much better security, perks, and pay. I had something like 20% of those in my class, my system more than that 10 years later. Unemployable at best, social dynamite at worst. Again, funny. I think the school system is finally catching up to the idea that it needs to produce employees, not do-gooders. Could this merely coincide with the exodus of a certain generation into retirement? I remember some of my teachers for religion (gosh, state-driven religious education, I shudder), history, German, English, Latin, geography (that was actually a full course in grade school), home economics, physical education, and social "sciences". They were a laughing stock. We did laugh about them, while manipulating them to give us better grades than the tough ones (usually the older ones). Good riddance, I say, to teachers that believe their pupils need to be their friends and buddies. What we need are teachers that instill the wonders of science, the mystery of a foreign culture, and the appeal of critical thinking. Not those with a social agenda.
