Java in mission-critical apps

I guess that puts the discussion in a rather glaring light.

As much as Java is fun, I have to agree with most of the statements made in this article. When it comes to heavy lifting, time-critical systems, I myself would by now have at least a portion of the system with C++ or C#. Period. The nice stuff around the hard core can be Java, but that is almost nothing else but cosmetics.

I am wondering what my friends at Amazon could tell about the infrastructure running EC2 or similar.
