DOMINO - Connected Diagnostics PDF Print E-mail

One of the really interesting ideas I had as Director, Connected Home, was the implementation of a low-cost online diagnostic solution. We called the program DOMINO and started it in 2004.

The technologies at the core of this are still rather confidential. I had the idea while in the car, and developed it until is was ready for prime-time. This included proof-of-concept prototypes, several focus group research events, product development for positioning, system architecture, the business case and the supporting organisation.

The project had two executive sponsors and was well under way when I left. As far as I was told, it will hit the shelves somewhen in 2009. This one has a 10-year benefit potential of $500Million due to rather extraordinaty cost savings.

I was also the "chief architect" for this project, developing a low-cost self-learning and improving architecture that was deeply embedded with Whirlpool's system landscape. We had help from RRI on the core diagnosis engine. This approach of using whatever suitable 3rd party component we could find is rather common for my architecture work.
